Grammar Gremlins

Sentence structure, agreement, and the building blocks of clear sentences.

Wordy Wanda

Wordy Wanda

Why use one word when twelve will do?

Short lesson

  • Wordiness is a craft choice, not a grammar error: the sentence is correct but uses more words than its meaning needs.
  • Watch for pairs that overlap (“good and beneficial”, “each and every”) and padded openers (“due to the fact that”).
  • Trimming keeps the idea and makes room for specific evidence.

Practice 1 of 3

Which phrase is the most concise replacement for “due to the fact that”?
